What is mDOS and what does it do?

mDOS is Medusa's onboard software that handles spectrum acquisition, K/U/Th processing, GPS logging, and live data display. It runs as a PWA in any browser — no installation needed.

mDOS (Medusa Detector Operating System) is the embedded software platform that runs on all Medusa MS-series gamma-ray sensors. It is the brain of every Medusa system.

Core functions of mDOS include:

  • Real-time spectrum acquisition – continuously records the full gamma-ray energy spectrum.
  • Spectral processing – automatically converts raw spectra into K, U, and Th concentrations and total dose rate.
  • GPS logging – timestamps and geo-tags every measurement for spatial mapping.
  • Data export – stores data in standard formats for use in GIS and data processing software.
  • Live visualisation – displays real-time data on a connected tablet, phone, or PC via Wi-Fi.

mDOS is a progressive web app (PWA), meaning it runs directly in a browser — no installation required on the connected device. The sensor itself hosts the application, so any device with a browser and Wi-Fi can connect to it in the field.
